Over the course of the exhibition teachers and classes were invited to use the exhibition space as a class room. The chairs and elements could be arranged freely, according to the intended purpose and then left as a trace, with which the next group of people will start with. from a lexicon of gestures was exhibited at and conceived for: Martina Mächler - from a lexicon of gestures, exhibition space, Kantonsschule Zürich Nord, Oerlikon, CH (06.11 - 13.12.2019)

06.12.2019, 12:14pm: Anastasia McCammon & Martina Mächler - a class on water (Performance, 45’00’’, in English)

the collaborative performance a class on water explores forms of knowledge production through informal exchange and bodily movements. Situated in an educational environment the performance was announced as a class on water. One could expect an informational input on the object of water, but water was rather taken as a mood and a relatable metaphorical collaborator with which to think and wade through and slip on.

Mächler performed murmurmaid, an entity kin to mermaids, trying to navigate the many thoughts within the self, to let them speak at once, which to some ears might sound like uncertainty or an inner fight, for others it‘s the murmur resembling the sounds of creeks and oceans, that allows for breathing.

McCammon performs a mail carrier-character only able to deliver letters while it‘s raining outside. Many of the letters seem undeliverable and serve as a loose score, through which improvisation unfolds.

Während der Ausstellung wurden Lehrer*innen und Klassen eingeladen, den Ausstellungsraum als Unterrichtsraum zu nutzen. Die Stühle und Elemente konnten je nach Verwendungszweck frei arrangiert werden und wurden dann als Spur hinterlassen, mit welcher die nächste Gruppe begann. 06.12.2019, 12:14 Uhr: Anastasia McCammon & Martina Mächler - a class on water (Performance, 45’00’’, in englischer Sprache)

Die kollaborative Performance a class on water untersucht Formen der Wissensproduktion über informellen Austausch und körperliche Bewegungen. Da sich der Ausstellungsraum an einem Gymnasium befindet, wurde die Performance als Stunde angeboten, die zu einer unüblichen Zeit (12:14) beginnt. Man hätte faktische Inputs zum Untersuchungsobjekt Wasser erwarten können. Wasser wurde von McCammon und Mächler jedoch als Stimmung und metaphorische Kollaborateurin angegangen, durch welches sie dachten, wateten und rutschten.

Martina Mächler performte murmurmaid, eine Entität mit Verwandtschaft zu Meerjungmenschen, welche die vielen Gedanken innerhalb des Selbst navigiert und sie gleichzeitig sprechen lässt, was für einige Ohren wie Unsicherheiten oder ein innerer Kampf klingt. Für andere mag es an die Klänge einer Quelle oder des Meeres erinnern, welche Raum zum Atmen geben.

Anastasia McCammon performte die Rolle einer Briefträgerin, welche die Post nur austragen kann, wenn es regnet. Viele der Briefe scheinen unzustellbar und werden für die Performance als losen Score verwendet, durch welche improvisiert werden.
